WHV Canada 2022: how to apply?

The WHV (Working Holiday Visa) Canada is a government scheme that allows you to visit the country freely for 24 months, but also to work there if you wish.

To apply, you must:

  • Have a passport from a country that signed an agreement with Canada;
  • Be between 18 and 35 years old (for some countries, 29 years old may be the age limit)
  • Have a minimum of 2500 Canadian dollars in savings;
  • Have international health insurance;
  • Have a return ticket, or enough money to buy one.

If you match these conditions, you must then register on the Canadian immigration website and submit your application in the WHV pool.

Invitations are allocated by drawing lots among the candidates from the pool, through several rounds. Each round lasts one week, and selects a different number of candidates.

If you receive an invitation to apply, you have 10 days to accept it, then 20 days to complete your file and provide the requested documents. You will also have 30 days to provide your biometric data, which can be collected by your local authorities.

WHV health insurance is easy with APRIL International!

New WHV Canada quotas for 2022

This year, quotas for the Canada WHV are for example: 5,000 places are reserved for British people, 4,490 for Germans, 750 for Belgians, unlimited for Australians

Be careful, however, because the profiles registered in 2021 who have not received their invitation remain automatically registered for 2022!

After the seventh round of invitations, which took place in the week of 28 February, 1,686 places were still available for UK residents, 2,697 for German residents, and 265 for Belgian residents. However, don't panic, there will be further rounds of invitations, and many applicants refuse their invitation or do not accept it in time. It is still possible to apply for and obtain a WHV Canada 2022!

WHV and COVID-19: Canada's requirements

As of 15 January 2022, it is mandatory for travellers to be fully vaccinated to enter Canada. This means that you must have a complete vaccination schedule, with at least two doses of vaccine received more than 14 days prior to your arrival. Before departure, you will need to present a negative PCR test taken less than 72 hours before leaving, or a negative antigen test less than 24 hours before leaving.

> Good to know: people who have received only one dose following a Covid-19 infection are not considered fully vaccinated by Canada and are not allowed to enter for a WHV.

Your proof of vaccination must be uploaded to the ArriveCan app, along with your contact and travel information.

As of 28 February 2022, fully vaccinated travellers are no longer required to quarantine themselves. However, random PCR tests are carried out on arrival: if you test positive, you will have to isolate for 10 days.

You will also need to present proof of international health insurance on arrival: it must cover your health costs for the duration of your stay. Be careful, if your insurance is shorter, you risk having your WHV shortened in the event of an inspection!
